Cristina García Rodero began to photograph with a passion as a teenager (which she has not abandoned) the festivals, rites and liturgies that, like many, she believed would disappear from rural Spain with the end of Franco, which was already intuited. They were wrong. If there is one day each year when the cities empty out and the towns overflow, it is August 15, the Assumption of the Virgin. From the efforts and sacrifices of 15 years, EspaÒa oculta was born in 1989, the book of her life, which placed her at the forefront of the international showcase of photography and changed the destiny of the Lunwerg publishing house. With all the awards and recognitions received, no one like García Rodero has captured so many moments that reflect the popular and traditional soul of this country, and for so long. A perennial black and white that bears witness to the most primitive aspects of human beings, their faith and their desire to celebrate life and ward off death.
