Walter Pfeiffer: Drawings presents the graphic work of renowned Swiss photographer Walter Pfeiffer, little known in comparison to his photographic work. Although he began as a draftsman in the 1970s, he created large-scale hyperrealistic pencil drawings that served as the basis for his photographs, posters for the Zürich Filmpodium, magazine illustrations, and commissioned portraits.
From the 1980s and especially in the 1990s, he temporarily abandoned photography to focus on Indian ink, colored pencils, and watercolors, portraying beautiful boys, close friends, still lifes, and flowers with joyful sensuality, confident lines, and an alternation between minimalism and rich ornamentation.
This is not a conventional retrospective, but an independent artist's book that reveals the vitality of his drawings and a renewed Pfeiffer in constant dialogue with his photography.
