George Condo is an artist known for blending influences from the Old Masters, Cubism, and Pop Art into a style he calls “artificial realism.” His works, especially the figures he calls Humanoids, depict human emotions and contradictions, critiquing the excesses of contemporary Western culture. In this book, Condo explains the origin and meaning of these creations and presents previously unseen paintings created during the pandemic and the political crisis in the United States. In addition, critic Didier Ottinger analyzes Condo’s career, influences, and impact on the history of modern art.
