Gordon Parks was a pioneering 20th-century photographer, director, and composer. He was the first African American photographer to work for the FSA and to be a staff writer for Life magazine. He was known for documenting poverty, civil rights, and race relations, as well as for photographing iconic figures such as Malcolm X and Marilyn Monroe. His work was marked by a strong commitment to social justice.
