Hurled Towards the Future examines how lesbian photographers in late 1980s and early 1990s London—such as Tessa Boffin and Del LaGrace Volcano—imagined and constructed a queer future within a context of resistance. The book argues that their photographic work was pivotal in redefining “queer” as both a political identity and an aesthetic practice. Moving beyond narratives centered on HIV/AIDS, it proposes an alternative history shaped by debates around gender, feminism, and representation during the era of Section 28. Through performance, parody, and fantasy, these artists challenged fixed notions of gender and sexuality, presenting them instead as open and fluid.
